Ingredients

  • 2 ciabatta rolls or sourdough if you’re feeling bougie
  • 2 slices of deli turkey or ham or roasted veggies if you’re going plant-based
  • 2 slices provolone or mozzarella cheese extra cheese, extra happiness — duh
  • 1 tablespoon butter for brushing the bread and getting that golden crisp
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard trust me, it adds sass
  • 1 teaspoon mayonnaise or aioli optional, but so worth it
  • A few slices of tomato juicy, not mushy — we’re not making soup
  • A handful of fresh spinach or arugula for color, crunch, and pretending it’s healthy
  • Salt & black pepper season like a queen

Instructions

Prep like a boss

  • Slice your ciabatta rolls in half, lengthwise. If your bread is too thick, trim it just a tad so the press can really get to work. Spread mustard on one side, mayo on the other — or just pick your favorite combo. Layer in your protein, cheese, tomato, and greens. Don’t overstuff it, babe, but also… don’t be shy. This is a melty, oozy sandwich — we’re not playing small here.

Butter it up

  • Melt a lil’ butter in a pan (or just brush it on the outside of the bread). This is the secret to that crispy golden crust everyone envies. You want it slightly sizzly but not swimming in butter — balance, babe, it’s key.

Press it down

  • Pop your panini in a panini press (or a heavy skillet with another pan on top). Press it down gently. Listen to that sizzle — it’s basically a love song for your sandwich. Cook for 3–5 minutes per side, depending on how hot your press is. You’re aiming for golden edges and melted cheese that’s begging you to take a bite.

The flip & peek moment

  • Halfway through, peek at it. That gooey cheese should be stretching like it’s auditioning for a movie. If you see the bread is browning too fast, lower the heat a tad — we want melty, not burned.

Rest it, queen

  • I know, I know… you want to attack it now. But give it 2 minutes after it’s off the press. It sets, holds together, and doesn’t turn into a sloppy disaster on your plate. Trust me — patience pays off.

Notes

  • Cheese choice matters: Use melty cheeses like mozzarella, provolone, fontina, or gouda for best results.
  • Bread: Ciabatta or sourdough works best for a crispy crust.
  • Make it ahead: Assemble sandwiches and refrigerate; press them fresh when ready to eat.
  • Add-ins: Avocado, caramelized onions, roasted peppers, pesto — your Panini, your rules!
  • Rest before slicing: Let pressed Panini cool 1–2 minutes so it holds together perfectly.
