Ingredients

For the Beef:

  • 1 lb 450 g flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain (super key for tenderness!)
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil optional, but omg, flavor!

For the Sauce:

  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce or hoisin if you’re feeling sweet
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar just a lil’ sweetness magic
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • ½ cup beef or chicken stock or water, I won’t judge
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger grated (optional but highly recommended)

Veggies & Extras:

  • 4 cups broccoli florets fresh or frozen — fresh wins, but frozen works if life’s hectic
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil or any neutral oil for stir-fry
  • Toasted sesame seeds for garnish because fancy vibes

Instructions

Prep like a boss

  • First things first, slice your beef thinly — seriously, thin as you can get it. The thinner, the more tender, and babe, you’ll thank me when every bite melts in your mouth. Toss it with a splash of soy, a sprinkle of cornstarch, and that sesame oil. Let it hang out while we do the broccoli.

Steam the broccoli (or blanch it, fancy talk alert)

  • Fill a pot with a few inches of water, bring it to a boil, toss in your broccoli florets for 1–2 minutes — just until bright green and a little tender but still with crunch. Drain and set aside. Girl, this step keeps it from turning sad and mushy later.

Make the sauce magic

  • In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, cornstarch, and stock. Add your garlic and ginger, then set it aside. Trust me, this little bowl of goodness is what’s gonna take your beef and broccoli from “meh” to “oh wow, I can’t believe I made this.”

Stir-fry the beef like a pro

  • Heat your pan or wok over medium-high heat (get it hot, babes!). Add 1 tablespoon oil and swirl it around. Toss in your beef strips and stir-fry for 2–3 minutes — just until it’s browned but not overcooked. The second you see those edges getting nice and caramelized, remove it from the pan. No overcooking, promise me.

Bring it all together

  • Add a lil’ more oil to the pan, toss in your sauce, and let it bubble for 30–60 seconds until it thickens. Then add the beef back in, toss to coat, and finally, fold in your broccoli. Give it a few flips so every floret is glossy and coated — like it’s getting ready for its Insta debut.

Plate and glam it up

  • Serve it over rice or noodles, sprinkle some toasted sesame seeds on top, maybe a drizzle of sesame oil if you’re feeling fancy, and… bam. Dinner is served. Girl, your kitchen will smell like magic, and your taste buds are about to throw a party.

Notes

• Slice the beef thinly against the grain for maximum tenderness. This makes a huge difference — don’t skip it.
• If using frozen broccoli, thaw and pat dry first to avoid watering down the sauce.
• Want extra saucy vibes? Double the sauce ingredients — especially if serving over rice.
• Don’t overcrowd the pan when cooking the beef. Cook in batches if needed so it sears instead of steaming.
• Adjust sweetness to taste. If you like a more savory profile, reduce the brown sugar slightly.
• Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat gently in a skillet for best texture.
• This recipe freezes okay, but broccoli softens after thawing — still delicious, just less crisp.
